Guidelines
- You have March and April to write your short storie

Sorry this has taken a week for me to do. Last week was my first week ever of university, so I was a little preoccupied. But no matter, I am here now!

So, for the last theme I changed the system up and got either no feedback, or positive feedback from people, so I am taking that as a step in the right direction, haha. Chiefly because there were 8 entries, and that's the most we have had since I started the themes.

The eight entries were all very good and I thoroughly enjoyed reading them. From concrete poetry in the shape of a key, to song lyrics, to short stories, there was an abundance of different ideas and interpretations presented.

I had to pick a winner, however, and to me the standout piece was Painting* by Phan5everx2.

Painting*She sighed as she surveyed the front lawn. So this is how it was, after so many years. Abandoned, left to rot, but it didn't, not really. There wasn't much to rot, but there was a lot to lose. Color, for instance. Everything was grey in her eyes now. She could barely remember, and she rarely wanted to. But now, just once, she'd like to see her childhood home in it's full glory again. She couldn't of course.
Her eyes flickered down to the once silver key she held in her hand. Memories reflected in it's dark shine, running through the door to catch the ice cream truck, kicking off her snow boots with her sister, trying, and failing, to catch fireflies in jars, throwing backpacks down around the corner. She tore her eyes away from the key and looked back at the door. She slowly slipped the key into the handle, hoping it would still work. Slowly, slowly, she turned it. A faint slipping and clicking echoed from behind the door. Her eyes lit up as she placed her hand on the door and ga

This piece was entertaining, suspenseful and creative, using many aspects of the theme and applying them well. I enjoyed reading this story, and am happy to name it as the winner of the last theme.

As I have done for all the previous themes, I will also feature all of the other wonderful entries. I enjoyed them all very much and hope to see all of you participating in the next theme!!

SchadenfreudeTo all the bullies, to the nasty people, to all the oppressors of this world
To those who are mean for the thrill of it
What is it about me, that when I enter the room, you feel you must retaliate my existence?
What is it I even did wrong?
Who gave you the right to control anothers life?
Under what authority do you condem who I am?
How I walk, talk, eat, look, when it does not measure up to you
You will hit, spit, trap me in a dark place, shove me up against a wall, put me through hell
Sometimes you won’t even say or do anything
When others also will shut me out
When you ‘don’t see me’ when you exlude me, when I’m ‘accidently’ shoved and knocked about
You really don’t care do you?
It wouldn’t mean a thing to you
Whether tomorrow I lived or died
It’s never changed your whole world how many times you’ve made me cry
You’

Reminiscing in my head.
I see colors
Other than grey.
I see girls with laced clothes
And boys with muddy toes,
Playing with toys
And singing a song.
I see myself there too,
Playing, and I never knew
How cruel friends are,
However fake they be.
The children dancing,
The people laughing,
They hold the key
To all my memories.
My mind goes back to
My high school years too.
The fake, smiling girls
And lying, smirking boys.
I see myself there too,
Laughing, and I never knew
Just how cruel friends could be,
However fake they may be.
The children dancing,
The people laughing,
They hold the key
To all my memories.
Now I look around my room
And grey shadows seem to loom.
They're my imagination,
The friends to keep me company.
I see them in there,
The seems of reality, they tear.
They laugh and scream in my head.
However fake they may be, they're here.
The children dancing,
The people laughing,
They hold the key
To all my grey memories.

So, onto the next theme!!

Like last time, I am going to put a song (and I will include an important lyric from it beneath the link), an object, a colour, a concept and an emotion. You must use at least one prompt, but you can use more than one if you wish.

:star: I will be taking suggestions for songs, objects, colours, concepts and emotions to include in future themes, so if you have any ideas, feel free to comment here, note me or the group, or comment me or the group. If I choose one of your suggestions, then you get a llama, and a mention because I will be telling everyone you came up with the prompt. So it's a win win situation, right?

Anywho, this week the fortnightly theme is as follows:

:bulletpurple: Song: Lying to the Mirror - Gabrielle Aplin

 - you do not need to listen to the song, you can just base it off the lyrics I will put below if you wish.
 - Favourite lyrics:

  • And all your monsters in the night they come to life,
So you embrace them in the hope that you'll survive,
Intoxicated by the fear and the flames,
    There's paranoia in your veins.

    • We're all lying to the mirror,
      Lying to ourselves,
      Hiding in the glitter,
      Lying to the mirror.

      • It is the beauty of our flaws that will define us,
So don't hold on to all the things you never had,
Just remember we're the good the bad the lovely,
It is the sanity of life that makes us mad.

        • Who you are is what you are and what you are is beautiful.

:bulletpurple: Object: A tea cup.

:bulletpurple: Colour: Lavender.

:bulletpurple: Concept: Food chains.

:bulletpurple: Emotion: Optimism (You can find out more about Optimism as an emotion here)

Now, for the rules and the important stuff you need to know about the theme BEFORE you submit!!!

:bulletred: It begins on the 2nd of March and ends on the 16th of March Australian time, although there will be a one day window after the due date to get your pieces in before I judge them and set another theme, so don't stress.

:bulletgreen: The submission can be any form of literature, but, please, no mature content (contact me if you wish to submit a piece with mature content, as it depends on the nature of the content as to whether it can be accepted), and only one submission per person.

:bulletred: You only need to use one of the prompts provided above for your piece to qualify. Please specify in your artist's comments what prompt you used.

:bulletgreen: More information (i.e. what you get for winning the theme etc) can be found in this blog entry: we-write-to-escape.deviantart.… [keeping in mind that it has not been updated with regards to the new prompt system]

:bulletred: You may interpret the theme however you want, but your piece has to relate to the theme to be considered.

:bulletgreen: All submissions for the theme must be submitted to the Fortnightly Themes gallery folder by the finishing date.

:bulletred: All submissions to the theme must have the group's name/icon and the theme mentioned in the artist's comments. If you do not do this your deviation does not count. (Also, do not complain about this if you are disqualified for this reason, because you are all supposed to read these rules BEFORE you submit your piece, and it is clearly stated that your piece will not count if these things are not mentioned in the artist's comments).

:bulletgreen: No plagiarising. Quoting lyrics from the song is acceptable as long as you credit the lyrics in the artist's comments.

I hope to see everyone participating!!!!

If you have any questions please comment below and I will answer them as soon as possible!!

To what extent am I allowed to use violence or things that others may view as somewhat disturbing? I have (in my opinion) a decent idea for the lyrical prompt but I feel that some things and some stuff might creep into there.
